High throughput optimization procedure to characterize vitrification kinetics

We present VITRIFAST, a high throughput optimization procedure to characterize the vitrification kinetics based on calorimetric measurements. By analyzing temperature dependence of specific heat capacity, method determines fictive temperature, Tf, and enthalpy change during physical aging, ΔH, within only few seconds. tested VITRIFAST low molecular weight glass-former o−terphenyl (OTP) an archetypal glass forming polymer, polystyrene (PS), by outcome two classical sets experiments. means fast scanning calorimetry (FSC), we characterized in wide range cooling rates isothermal aging after at given rate. In less than 3 minutes, our could process 18 different scans provided values Tf ΔH excellent agreement with those reported literature. can be employed analysis any type second order derivative free energy represents tremendous advance data scans.
